Many have said that simple, straightforward effects are the best... which holds true to a certain
point (considering the effect must be simple, not always the method). One of the effects that
remained in my mind for more than 25 years (that was when I first saw it in a TV show in
Austria) is Albert Goshman's version of the »cards through the newspaper«, which remained a
signature piece throughout his career.
I ALWAYS loved this effect, but didn't like Albert's use of a duplicate card (although his version
is VERY clean through the use of this method). Another point that bothered me was that I
couldn't really SECURELY remember the exact proceedings and the handling, which in turn
made this effect unsure for me to perform. Many years later I decided to finally take up the
challenge and I devised a very simple, direct and—above all—EASY to remember method for
doing this classic effect.
Though my version is extremely simple, it doesn't lack impact. Also, it can be done with four
signed cards, and it uses just an unprepared deck of cards and two pieces of newspaper. When
you go through the little trouble to learn the mechanics, I am sure you will agree that this is a
»worker's« version of this classic.
