A spectator raises a number of fingers behind their back. You instantly know what that number is, without reflections, assistants, or gimmicks.

"This is an ingenious principle that is entirely reliable and realistic. Everyone needs this because it is simple, direct, and completely impromptu. Just the sort of thing mentalists want to blow people away anytime, one on one or in a group, with no real effort and entirely off-the-cuff without preparation. This is one of those things that mentalists will be relying upon for a very long time...and those first to get it will be on the cutting edge of our future foundation of methods. That said, it is incredibly simple and easy, with only a few trials with friends needed as practice to learn." - Kenton Knepper
Imagine asking your spectator to place their hand behind their back. You do the same thing. You then ask your spectator to raise any number of fingers behind their back, as you do the same. Then you show your hand, followed by your spectator a second later. Your fingers match, and a moment is shared between two connected minds. This is Digit.
With Digit you have the power to name almost any thought indicated on the spectator's hands behind their back. It's completely impromptu, takes just minutes to learn completely, and works on almost anyone, at almost any time, any place, with no reflections, assistants, or gimmicks. You never need to see their hand at all. It fits in perfectly with a number of different cold reading techniques, as is detailed in the ebook.
Sympathy: In one of the purest moments of mind reading, you and your spectator both put a hand behind your back and raise a number of fingers, from 1 to 5. You then remove your hands to show that you were thinking of the same number.
Rock Paper Scissors: You play Rock Paper Scissors with your spectator and win every time.
Words: Your spectator calls out a number of words, and mentally chooses one, which you can name.
Book Tests: Using any ungimmicked book, the spectator thinks of a page or line number, and you reveal their thought.
PIN Number: With both hands behind their back, your spectator raises a number of fingers from 1 to 10, for each digit of their PIN, which you can then reveal.
Dead or Alive: Spectators make a list of names. One of the names is that of a dead person. Using your skills, you are able to divine which name.
Star Signs: Your spectator thinks of their star sign and you can name it.
Playing Cards: You ask your spectator to think of a card, and then proceed to reveal both the suit and the value in a logical way.
Colors: Your spectator thinks of a color and directs their thought of that color to their hand, which is hidden behind their back. You then reveal the color.
