A Deck is borrowed. It is thoroughly shuffled by a spectator. The performer has any spectator think of any number between one and fifty-two, but not to reveal it to anyone until asked by the performer. Nothing is written down. The number is simply thought of. The performer now has a different spectator name any card. There is no force of any kind! After a very funny gag, the performer for the first time asks the spectator to reveal the number that he has merely been thinking of. Let us assume that the number is twenty three. Without any fumbling or manipulation of the Deck, no cuts, no shuffles, nothing; the performer honestly and directly deals the cards down to the position of the number called out. The card at that specified location is handed to a spectator for a moment as the cards are spread to show them all to be different. After a suitable build up, the spectator turns over the card in his hand. It is the named card!
That is the exact effect. Those of you who are familiar with David's work know how honest and direct he is when describing his effects, and this is no exception.
It is totally impromptu.
It is done with a cold and borrowed Deck.
There are no calculations to memorize.
There are absolutely no stooges including the instant type.
Truly any card can be chosen, and any number can be named.
The effect is absolutely straight forward. There is no b.s.
There is a move that you will have to learn which is not hard to do, but it is a move nevertheless.
